Panzer Assault Badge In Silver By Paul Meybauer \

A US Army non-commissioned officer who was filmed shooting a black man in his South Carolina neighborhood earlier this week, the Associated Press reported.

Sergeant First Class Jonathan Pentland, 42, was arrested Wednesday and taken to the Richland County Jail. It is understood that he has since been granted bail.

On Monday, a woman posted footage on Facebook of herself engaging with a black man in their neighborhood outside of Pentland and Columbia, South Carolina.

Pentland was seen yelling at the man, getting in his face and telling him to get out of his neighborhood.

In the video, Pentland said, "You go away or I'm going to get you out of here.

It's not clear from the video what led to the confrontation, but by the end of the three-minute clip, Pentland's wife complained that the man was fighting with her neighbor.

In the video, Pentland repeatedly asked what the man was doing in his neighborhood. The man said he was just walking around and that he lived in the area.

When the man tried to address Pentland's wife, Pentland pushed him, causing him to nearly fall.

Sheryl Johnson, the woman who posted the video on Facebook, wrote that she stayed with the man until an officer arrived at the scene. He said the officer charged Pentland with criminal trespass to property after he dropped the man's cell phone at the scene.

Johnson said he was walking with his best friend when he saw the two men fighting and stayed to make sure the man wasn't hurt.

"We came back to free him from that situation because we refused to see him go to jail or die because he was black," she wrote. "He just did art while walking!!!"

In announcing Pentland's arrest Wednesday, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott confirmed there were two other incidents involving a hit-and-run involving a black man, but said that did not justify Pentland's behavior.

"There are other things that happened that really don't justify [Pentland's] actions," Lott said. "None of them justified this attack," he said.

"It's horrible, it's unnecessary, it's a bad video. The young man was the victim, the person arrested was the aggressor and he was dealt with accordingly," he said.

Lott added that Krishna has an underlying medical condition that explains the behavior exhibited in the alleged incident.

Social media accounts associated with Pentland indicate that he works as a drill sergeant at the Fort Jackson garrison.

On Wednesday, the commanding general of the installation condemned the video and said that the Justice Department is looking into the matter.

"Fort Jackson leaders in no way condone the behavior depicted in the recently posted video," said Fort Jackson Commander Brig. General Milford Beagle Jr.

"I am deeply concerned about our military family members, young men and their families, and this type of activity may escalate over time; please be patient as the facts are determined."

Protesters gathered outside the Pentland family home on Wednesday night. Pentland's family was forced out of their home when protesters began vandalizing the house.
